What you will learn
Learn how to leverage Power BI’s Analytics pane to identify data trends and configure anomaly detection, helping you detect and resolve data quality issues efficiently. Master the creation of Key Influencer visuals to uncover the factors driving your most important metrics.
Explore the power of “what-if” analysis using parameters, automate repetitive tasks, and apply forecasting techniques to predict future trends. You’ll also gain hands-on experience with DAX formulas to create custom date tables, enhancing your use of Power BI’s time intelligence features.
Prerequisites
This course is intended for users who regularly work with Power BI and have a solid understanding of data analysis, writing DAX formulas, and creating interactive dashboards. If you’re not yet comfortable with these skills, we recommend completing our 2-day Power BI Intermediate course before enrolling.
10 lesson covers:
Designing Power BI Datasets
You’ll learn to use Power BI data profiling tools to assess quality and structure, plan datasets for performance, and apply data transformations in Power Query. This foundation ensures your reports are fast, scalable, and analysis-ready.
Creating and Using Parameters in Power BI
Parameters bring flexibility to your dashboards. In this module, you’ll create dynamic Power BI parameters to support interactive “what-if” analysis and personalised filters. Learn how to configure parameters to control slicers and calculations for customised report views.
Field Parameters for Interactive Reporting
Discover how Power BI field parameters allow users to dynamically switch between dimensions and measures. You’ll work with numeric parameters to model ranges and field parameters to enable more flexible, self-service reporting in your visuals.
Data Segmentation: Groups, Bins & Clusters
Segment your data to uncover insights faster. This lesson covers creating custom Power BI groups and bins, along with using AI-powered clustering to automatically detect patterns. You’ll also explore multivariable clustering for deeper, multi-dimensional analysis.
Forecasting in Power BI
Learn to forecast trends and make data-driven predictions. This session covers configuring forecast charts in Power BI, defining forecast units (e.g., days, months), and interpreting confidence intervals to assess forecast accuracy and reliability.
Using the Power BI Analytics Pane
Unlock deeper insights with the Power BI Analytics pane. You’ll explore how to apply anomaly detection and identify outliers in Power BI visuals, helping you find unexpected patterns or issues in your data automatically.
Customising Power BI Q&A Features
Make natural language queries smarter and more accurate. Learn to optimise your data model for Power BI Q&A, add synonyms to improve query results, and deliver a better experience for business users asking questions using plain English.
Power BI AI Visuals and Smart Insights
Tap into Power BI’s built-in AI features for data analysis. You’ll generate insights using the Analyse feature, create Key Influencer visuals, explore root causes with the Decomposition Tree, and summarise findings using the Smart Narrative visual.
Advanced AI in Power BI Visuals
Go deeper into Power BI’s AI-powered visual analysis. You’ll use visual tools like Explain the Difference and Distribution Comparison to help your reports explain complex data relationships automatically—making insights easier for stakeholders to understand.
Building DAX Date Tables for Time Intelligence
Master DAX for time intelligence in Power BI by building your own custom date tables. You’ll use the CALENDAR and CALENDARAUTO functions to generate reusable date ranges and gain more control over time-based reporting and analysis.
